Construction of a New M-450 Methanol Synthesis Unit at OJSC Shchekinoazot
The project is implemented at OJSC Shchekinoazot, Tula Region.
It includes construction of a methanol production plant that uses modern methanol synthesis technologies and has an output of 450 kt of methanol per year. At the same time the old methanol units are decommissioned. The project aims to increase methanol production at OJSC Shchekinoazot by using state-of-the-art processes that would enhance efficiency of methanol production and reduce its energy intensity.
The project GHG emission reductions are achieved by reducing heat and power demands of the methanol production process at OJSC Shchekinoazot which is followed by reduction in fossil fuel (natural gas) consumption for heat and power generation at Pervomayskaya CHPP. Emission reductions are also due to prevented CO2 emissions from combustion of fossil fuel by third-party producers.
Expected emission reductions over 2011 – 2012 – 0.394 million tonnes of CO2e
