The project envisages the construction and operation of a solar park with an output capacity of up to and including 100 MW. The solar park will be equipped with several arrays of photovoltaic (PV) panels. Produced electricity will be supplied to the Eskom electricity network. Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from electricity generation for the solar park amount to zero. The reduction of GHG emissions as a result of the project implementation will be achieved due to reduction of CO2 emissions from combustion of fossil fuel at the existing grid-connected power plants and plants which would likely be built in the absence of the project activity.
This project is the biggest solar park in Africa under construction.
The crediting period of the project is 01/01/2014 – 31/12/2023.
Total estimated GHG emission reduction over the 10-year crediting period is 2 380 798 tCO2e.
