Reconstruction of Pipe-Rolling Plant at Taganrog Metallurgical Works
The project is implemented at Taganrog Metallurgical Works (TAGMET) in the city of Taganrog, Rostov Region.
The project is aimed at retrofitting the open-hearth steel pouring and pipe rolling processes at Taganrog Metallurgical Works (TAGMET) in order to reduce the losses of steel during pipe production through employment of up-to-date continuous billet casting machine (CCM) and an advanced continuous rolling mill (PQF) with a control system for technological and geometrical parameters.
This would provide for the decrease of specific (per tonne of pipe produced) use of fossil fuel, pig iron and other carbon intense and/or carbon containing materials and to supply to the market bigger amount of pipe with reduced carbon intensity to partly substitute that produced with higher amount of associated GHG emissions.
The project activitiesinclude installation of a 5-strand continuous billet casting machine produced by «SMS DEMAG AG» (Germany) and the auxiliary facilities. The project capacity of the CCM is 950 ths. tonnes of billets a year;reconstruction of the hot part of PRM-2 by replacing of a Pilger mill with a continuous rolling mill, the so called PQF mill, produced by «SMS MEER», Germany. The project capacity of the mill is 600 ths. tonnes of pipe a year.
